Tips for great
pictures
At
Cherished Moments it is our goal to help you create a work of art
that will warm your heart for years to come. We also want your sitting
to be an enjoyable experience. So here are some tips we have picked
up along the way that may help.
Getting
your kids at their best
Even the sweetest children can become... well, something else when
the pressure is on. Putting our kids in an unfamiliar setting and
asking them to act natural can be tricky so here are some things to
remember when scheduling your sitting. Try to choose a time when your
little ones are at their best. If they have a favorite doll, teddy
bear, musical instrument etc. you would like in the photo bring it
along. It may help them relax to have something of their own and will
add a personal touch. Most importantly, remember that we work with
lots of little folks and understand that sitting still in a new place
is not what most kids do naturally. With a little imagination and
fun we can make your sitting a great success.
Some thoughts
on clothes and colors
When having color portraits taken people often put a lot of consideration
into the clothing they wear so that colors will not clash. Although
color may not be such an issue with hand colored black & white
photos there are still some simple guidelines that should be followed
to ensure the best results.
For example, you may want to avoid busy prints or shirts with pictures,
large words or logos on them as they often detract from the subject.
Medium colors work best for hand coloring since white and black can
not be hand colored. Be careful of clothing prints with a lot of detail
since they cannot be tinted in smaller size prints, and may be an
added cost even in larger prints.
Also please remove nail polish as dark colors will show up black and
won't look natural.
Finally, keep in mind that Cherished Moments has a large selection
of vintage, slightly used and new clothing to choose from for your
sitting. These items complete the Black & White 'look' as well
as compliment the hand coloring we will add to your portraits.
Rain
or Shine
If weather permits you may want to choose an outdoor setting for
your portraits. We will come to a location of your choice or you may
choose from our outdoor backgrounds. Either way when photographing out
of doors the lighting is an important consideration. The ideal weather
is not sunny but rather an overcast day because it gives soft lighting
eliminating harsh shadows. Early morning and late afternoon also work
well for outdoor photos. Of course if the weather is not cooperative
we have a full studio with a number of pleasing backgrounds.
